What is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)?
This condition causes a blockage in the minuscule Meibomian glands in your eyelids. Every time you blink, these glands release droplets of oil into the lipid layer of the tear film, which acts to keep your eyes lubricated. If you aren’t blinking enough, the oil gets trapped in the glands, causing a blockage. Without enough oil being released by the Meibomian glands, your tears evaporate too quickly from the surface of your eyes, resulting in Dry Eye Syndrome.

How does Lipiflow Dry Eye treatment work?
Lipiflow Dry Eye treatment works by gently warming the inner rims of your eyelids and massaging the outer rims of your eyelids.
Just before your Lipiflow procedure, you will be given numbing eye drops to keep you as comfortable as possible during the treatment.
Following this, two activators which are designed to protect the surface of your eyes, will be placed over and under the eyelids, so they are solely focused on the Meibomian glands. Gentle heat and pressure are then delivered in pulses into the glands to safely remove any blockages. The entire procedure takes just 12 minutes and doesn’t require any recovery time, so you can go about your day afterwards as usual.
As your Meibomian glands return to normal function, more oils will be secreted to improve the quality of your tears and ease your Dry Eye symptoms.
